This is the definitive 2020 Zevon tune.

That may be true, but I like this one since he rhymes my city with “Naugahyde divan” That takes effort.

“Van Owen and the rest...”
I always found that line hilarious because Warren lived and worked in The Valley for so long. And, there’s a long east-west street in the Valley, parallel to Sherman, called Van Owen.
But, hey, I always figure that Eddie Haskell from Leave It To Beaver was named for “Haskell Street” in the Valley, too.
Oddly, a lot of the early settlers and developers in LA were Dutch and street names like Van Nuys and Van Owen derive from that.

The BEST. “Nailing tackless stripping and housewives by the score...”

I happened to watch Letterman the last time Zevon came on. He mentioned that he had stage 4 cancer and sang this and joked about not buying green bananas.

Mr. Bad Example was the album that turned me into the hardcore WZ fan I am today. I still miss the fuck out if that brilliant bastard.

I have the album but had never seen the video until after I posted. Yep, chills. And the irony was I watched letterman about 10 times a year the night we happened to turn it on. Dave really liked Warren.

I gravitate towards this song on early spring/late fall days when I can rip the top and doors off of the Jeep and cruise back roads , also as the background for a well earned shower beer after a long and productive day and occasionally while mowing the grass or running the tractor . Basically, anytime I can sing/yell “that son- of-a- bitch Van Owen” without judgement.
